An administrative unit responsible for conveying Penn State's capabilities to the world-wide materials community, for coordinating common interests and activities throughout the Penn State materials community, and for communicating the needs of materials researchers to the University administration. The multi-user facilities at the MRI include the Materials Characterization Lab (MCL), a state-of-the-art analytical laboratory with a wide set of materials characterization tools and techniques, and the Penn State Nanofab, part of the National Nanotechnology Infrastructure Network (NNIN), enabling fabrication of electrical, optical, and mechanical devices at the micro and nano scale.
